Everything You Need to Know Before Refacing Your Kitchen Cabinets

Cabinet refacing is one of the most popular kitchen upgrades for homeowners who want a dramatic transformation without the cost, disruption, or timeline of a full remodel. Below are answers to the most common questions we receive about cabinet refacing, our process, pricing, materials, and what to expect when working with Let’s Face It.

What is cabinet refacing?

Cabinet refacing updates the look of your kitchen by replacing cabinet doors and drawer fronts while keeping the existing cabinet boxes in place. Exposed cabinet surfaces are finished to match, giving your kitchen a brand-new appearance without demolition.

How does cabinet refacing work?

Each project begins with precise measurements and a design consultation. Your existing doors and drawer fronts are removed, and new custom components are built to fit your kitchen exactly. Exposed cabinet surfaces are prepared and finished to match, then new doors, drawers, hinges, trim, and hardware are installed. Every project is completed by our in-house team and inspected for quality before completion.

Why Choose Cabinet Refacing?

Simply put, refacing is the cost-effective, time-saving, and cleaner way to transform your kitchen. You get a dramatic visual upgrade while preserving your existing, functional cabinet structure. Homeowners love it because it’s much faster, significantly cleaner, and far more sustainable than a total replacement. When skilled experts like Let’s Face It handle the installation, your refaced cabinets will be durable, long-lasting, and can look brand new for many years.

How much does cabinet refacing cost?

Refacing is one of the most budget-friendly kitchen upgrades available; It can save you up to 60% compared to a full remodel. The final price depends on a few key factors: the size of your kitchen, the specific materials you select, and the complexity of the design. Choosing premium wood veneers, custom finishes, or high-end hardware will increase the cost slightly, but the savings compared to a full tear-out and remodel are still huge.

How long does cabinet refacing take?

Most cabinet refacing projects are completed in three to five days. Because your cabinet boxes stay in place, disruption is minimal and the timeline is fast.

What types of cabinet refacing do you offer?

We offer multiple refacing options based on budget, design goals, and material preference, including premium wood refacing and alternative material options. During your consultation, we walk you through the differences and help you choose the best solution for your kitchen.

Can I add new cabinets or storage options?

Yes. Let’s Face It has a full wood shop and can integrate new cabinetry into your existing kitchen. You may want to add islands or build out a new refrigerator garage for a low profile refrigerator. You can also add many cabinet interior options such as wood roll out drawers, pull out trash and recycling bins, or drawer organizers just to name a few. Essentially, we can install any cabinet interior options that are available in a completely new kitchen.

Will I sacrifice design or quality by refacing?

As a Let’s Face It customer, you will have the ability to work with in-house certified design professionals who will offer you the experience and service to get you the kitchen of your dreams. With Let’s Face It, you will have as many choices as you would if you contracted a custom cabinet maker to hand-build your new kitchen. Choose from cherry, maple, walnut, alder, white oak, etc. with thousands of finishes to get you the traditional, contemporary, transitional, French country, or whatever design aesthetic you prefer. All of our wood doors and drawer fronts are made by Pennsylvania Dutch cabinet craftsmen. All materials are custom sized and specifically measured to overlay the existing face frame of your kitchen.

Will cabinet refacing affect my countertops or flooring?

No. Cabinet refacing is designed to preserve your existing countertops, flooring, and layout. This makes it an ideal option if you want an update without disturbing other upgrades.

What is the difference between cabinet refacing and cabinet refinishing?

Cabinet refinishing updates the surface of your existing doors, usually through sanding and painting or staining. Cabinet refacing replaces the doors and drawer fronts entirely and refinishes exposed cabinet surfaces to match. Refacing provides more design options and a more dramatic transformation.
